The ‘Indie til I die’ tour kicked off in Leeds last night with The Enemy playing their debut album “We’ll Live and Die in These Towns” along with a few extras to a packed O2 Academy Leeds. It was a masterclass in indie nostalgia, The band kicked off with the ferocious "Aggro," setting the tone for an evening filled with energy and singalongs. The highlight of the night came not just from the band’s performance, but from the electric connection between them and the crowd. Tom proclaiming towards the end of the set he knew starting the tour off in Leeds was the right idea.

As the band rolled through fan favorites like "Away From Here" and "Had Enough," the audience maintained their high-energy participation singing back to the band, two pint cups of beer raised in the air and then once empty thrown across the crowd. A standout moment for me, four songs in, was when Tom took to the acoustic guitar for a rendition of "We’ll Live and Die in These Towns," The song arguably their best and most popular really hit the spot filled with emotion and angst.

Several times throughout the evening between songs the crowd took control, chanting the line, "Now, this song, is about, is about, is about you!" in unison, leaving the band in awe. Clarke paused, visibly moved, allowing the audience to fill the venue with their voices. The classic encore walk off and on again took place and the band returned belting out ‘Use Somebody’ another one of their big hitting songs. Before the band took its turn rounding out the night with a few more goes of "Now, this song, is about, is about, is about you!" which the crowd was delighted to sing hear and sing along too. With just enough time for Tom to mention they won’t be performing this set anymore with new music coming next year!

The gig was more than just a performance; it was a celebration of a shared history between The Enemy and their fans. From start to finish, the show was a testament to how We’ll Live and Die in These Towns still resonates so deeply, as the songs felt as relevant and powerful as ever. The band fed off the crowd's energy throughout the night, making it a special, interactive experience that both the band and the audience will likely never forget.
